Meet Kelsie Hayes, the owner and founder of POPUPFLORIST, aka the most colorful Instagram account out there. Founded in 2016 as a popup concept, Kelsie has grown the brand into a “full retail, e-commerce and event design business.” As we head into peak hosting season, we caught up with Kelsie to find out how she makes her holiday table bloom.
What are three words that describe your Holiday hosting style?
Thoughtful, eclectic, colorful
Who is your dream guest you would love to be seated next to at a Holiday dinner party?
My daughter Lenny, always, but if it’s past her bedtime- Harry Styles is a close second!
What do you love about the Year & Day color combo you chose (Midnight + Palm)
I love the midnight & palm because they are the perfect canvas to create a beautiful spread. They are both great alternatives to a neutral plate and look beautiful on their own or styled with rich colors.
Any floral tips + tricks you can share to create the perfect seasonal floral arrangement setup on the table?
In the same way that when you cook it’s best to use fresh and seasonal ingredients, florals are at their best when they are in season. I recommend sticking to a maximum of 3 different varieties. The compositions should be appropriately sized to the food and be a compliment to what you’re serving, not a takeaway. Selecting minimal varieties helps tell a story and is easier to incorporate whether it be a cheese plate garnish or a few bud vases.
